Everything You Need to Know about Visiting Magnolia Market!

Updated: Nov 15, 2019

Hey all! Soo last week I traveled to the Houston area to visit my awesome friend, Duyen, and on Wednesday we made the trek to Magnolia! First FYI... there is a crazy speed trap in a town called Reisel, Texas. The speed drops a crazy amount... I think from 65 to 45 and they are waiting to catch anyone who doesn't slow all the way down immediately! We saw several people get pulled over, and later discovered several posts about this crazy speed trap that many people have gotten caught in. Soo if you are heading that direction BE CAREFUL!

How Big is Magnolia Market?

Now that I got that PSA out of the way, lol... prior to going to Magnolia, both Duyen and I mentioned that we were unsure of the size of the place. I had looked it up, and so had she, but neither of us could quite pinpoint just what to expect! For those of you wondering, the entire place is about (give or take) the size of a football field.

When is the Best Time to Go?

I have read that Wednesday is the best day to go because it is less busy. I don't have any other days to compare it to, but although busy, it wasn't totally overwhelming when we were there. I would definitely suggest going when it opens:

Magnolia Market is open from 9am-6pm every day except Sunday when they are closed.

The Silos Baking Co. (the bakery) is open 7:30am-6pm from Monday through Saturday and closed Sunday as well.

Going early is good because it helps you beat a little bit of the crowd, plus, if you are going during the summer the only parts that are air conditioned are the main store area (the lower part is not air conditioned), the seed shop, and the bakery (I believe that covers them all).

Will It Be Difficult to Find Parking?

We arrived at Magnolia Market at 9am (the time it opens) on a Wednesday morning. There are local church lots that allow parking for $10 a car (which is totally worth it, because it is RIGHT next to Magnolia Market!). There were plenty of spots open when we got there, and even when we left around 1/1:30 there were still several spots open. There was also some street parking, and if you don't want to pay and are willing to walk, there are some businesses on the next street over with lots I'm sure you could park in. Be sure to bring cash for parking if you intend to use the lot nearby. We forgot cash and ended up walking down the street to CVS (which was only about 3 blocks away) to get some! Not too far, but we were anxious to check everything out!

What Should I bring?

Definitely wear some comfy clothes and shoes, and bring a water bottle! There are water stations located around the premises! They also have paper cups you can use if you forgot the water bottle. I would bring some sunblock if come during the summer and you plan to spend much time outside, and LOTS of money, because everything is super cute.... and a little pricey! They have large shopping bags for you to carry around and fill with your goodies, so no need to bring one of your own unless you want it to carry your things in after you check out. Our bags got quite heavy after a while, and it may have been nice to have a shoulder bag to carry them in instead!

Is Magnolia Market Kid Friendly?

This one I feel is both a yes and a no! One of the coolest parts about Magnolia Market is the huge field in the middle, lined with black and white striped beanbag chairs and containing corn hole games! It's awesome that there is something for the kids to do and a place they can run around and...well... be kids! On the other hand, the shop is typically pretty crowded with lots of breakable things, which can easily be knocked off, but also do not interest children much which leads to boredom (we witnessed a couple of meltdowns while there!). Soo, my advice would be... if you plan to bring the kids, bring your significant other, mom, friend or someone (if possible) who can hang out with the kiddos outside, while you enjoy yourself and do some shopping !

What are Prices Like?

I guess this depends on what your idea of "expensive" is. I had the idea that prices would be similar to those of the "Hearth & Hand" line at Target. That was not the case. I would say prices were about double that. Now of course you are also paying for the experience! To give you an idea.... kids t-shirts were about $20, adult shirts started at $26, mugs started at $24 I believe. Decorative items ranged from $12 for a small spoon rest to $200-$300 for wall signs and decorative pieces. Obviously there was a wide range in between! I ended up spending more than twice my budget.... hehe. Soo just be prepared for that! Lol! Do note, however, that there is a 10% military discount for those of you it applies to!

What All is There to Do/See?

I have included a photo of the map of the "Silo District" to give you an idea of what all is there and what is in the vicinity, along with some photos of what all you will see at Magnolia Market! When it comes to the actual Magnolia Market there is The Silos Baking Co., which we did not end up going to because there was quite the line, and well, we weren't hungry. There is the Magnolia shop (which is the main shopping spot on the premises), Magnolia Seed Supply (which is a small plant/garden store), the food trucks including everything from hot dogs, to bbq, to pizza, to the chicken salad sandwiches at the Magnolia Table food truck, and even an Alabama Sweet Tea Truck! There is the pavilion where you can sit to eat your food, and the field of games which I had mentioned earlier. You will also see some gardens, the Silos, and a few other spots to just sit, relax and enjoy the scenery!

Well I think that about sums it up! Here are a list of quick tips we covered just as a reminder!

-Bring cash for parking

-Wear cool (if going in the summer), comfy clothing

-Bring a refillable water bottle

-Come early (bakery opens at 7:30am, store opens at 9am)

-Wednesdays seem to be the best day to come!

-There is a 10% Military discount

-Bring someone to hangout with the kiddos if they are coming too! 😉

-Have fun and do your best to stick to your budget! 😊

Let me know if you have any questions, and feel free to share if you have been and have any advice you’d like to add! 😊
