6 things to Think About when Babyproofing

Hey guys! So my goal is to put a new blog post out every Wednesday! I apologize for not putting one out last week! It was a crazy week! I will do my best to stay on track!

So to jump right in, my munchkin has gone from scooting her lil' self slowly across the floor or bed to speed crawling, climbing stairs and pulling up on everything! If you saw my posts about my spring decor, you know my home was anything but babyproofed! So when changing out my decor, I put a LOT of things away, especially things like any kind of stands (candle, plant stand, etc.) that could easily fall over.

This past Monday, I let my little chica crawl around the house as I cleaned and put things away. I let her show me things she would get into! The first thing I noticed (which I had suspected would happen), was her trying to climb this old ladder! 😂

So anything you notice with low bars or legs are things you definitely want to either get rid of for now, or secure to the wall. This one is kind of a given, but I felt I should at least mention it!

The next one is also kind of a given, but super important.... electric outlets! I don't know what it is about those darn things, but she loves going for them... she also laughs when I tell her no... smh! It's super important that you get the outlet covers installed asap! I have some that work better than others, the tighter the better (even though they are kind of annoying to get out... you don't want them to be easy for your little one to get out!). The ones I have are hand-me-downs from friends and family, but these got great reviews on Amazon. And a 50 pack for less than $9, you can't go wrong!

When it comes to securing furniture... tables, chest of drawers, bookshelves, etc.. that you have in your home, the best thing I have found (based on the research I have done) are these straps you can order from Amazon as well. I just ordered mine the other day... they actually got here a little bit ago, but I haven't been outside to get the package yet! 😂 I will use these on my long sofa table (you can see the edge of in the photo above), as well as a few other pieces of furniture in my living room!

Another thing you need to think of is securing cords!

This is something I am still working on. If you look at this photo, you can still see the cord hanging down in the back! I have wrapped it under the lamp so that it is shorter than it was, but I am also planning to put a command hook on the back of the table straight above the outlet to secure it and prevent any excess cord to be hanging out!

What do y'all think of the suitcase? I am planning to use it to put some of her toys in! I LOVE it! I was planning to paint it white, but it's in such good condition... plus I took an Instagram vote and "leave it as is" won by quite a landslide! 😝

Don't forget to take off any extra long table runners! These are easy for babies to grab a hold of and pull everything off right onto their little noggins!

This is the runner I (still) need to remove from my vintage record player! I don't know why it's hanging down that far in the first place, honestly, lol. It was a temporary put in place to keep from scratching the top of the record player!

This is the runner I have on my kitchen table (handmade by my mama!). It is short enough (and the table is tall enough) that it doesn't hang down far enough to give my little speed racer one more thing to climb! And I always have a runner on my white cabinet in the back with all of my coffee stuff, but decided to change it up and just get rid of it completely this time around!

Lastly, don't forget to cushion any hard corners or edges your baby might bump into and get hurt on!

My current arch enemy are these crazy wheels on my lovely coffee table! They sure do smart on your toes, so I know they won't feel good to fall on or bump into! I'm still searching for a good option for babyproofing these babies (pun intended), aside from throwing a large blanket on top of them when she's on the move! As for edges and corners, you can pick up this foam edging for tables and

bookshelves.

It got great reviews and says it is non-toxic and easy to use.. and very stick so as not to fall off! This is great for babyproofing, but worried me for the furniture... however, I read through reviews and it seems it is also easy to remove without damaging furniture as well!

Well there ya have it folks! These are my tips for babyproofing! If you have additional tips or have tried anything above and want to share your experiences please share in the comments! I would love to hear from you all!

Also, this is my bench in the kitchen which is totally not babyproofed.... I just love it, and my goal is to keep her away from it 😁. I will update you on that goal later on! 😝

Until next week! 😉
